What’s in it for me?

Good morning beautiful people!!! Today’s inspiration is brought to you by the stillness of this Sunday morning, gratitude for my lovely home, having absolutely nothing to do today and, you guessed it, pumpkin spice sunshine.

I typically spend Saturday or Sunday morning in reflection. To assess the highs and lows of the past week and to mentally prepare for the week ahead.

The thing that stuck out to me about last week was the number of interactions I had where people were struggling with how to show up because of others expectations.

Some were challeneged by the constant need to show up as their race or gender to fill an obvious void that still exists in many places and spaces in corporate America.

Others were challenged by the insistence that in order to make others comfortable,  you have to show up as less than  yourself.

Neither situation feels good. In both, you are expected to do or be for the sake of someone else. But where’s the joy and satisfaction in that?

Thus today’s Moments In Mugs…

BE YOU FOR YOU NOT THEM.

Each and every one of us has tremendous value. Value that, if given the chance, others may try exploit for their use and benefit. Some encourage authenticity, transparency or vulnerability for nothing more than to check a box.

Others encourage high performance, hard work and diligence because it makes their life easier.

And don’t get me wrong…there is absolutely nothing wrong with showing up as any of the aforementioned.

But when it leaves you feeling empty or causes you to question who you really are…well then, that’s a problem.

As you head into the week, give yourself permission to show up as YOU for you.

Learn that asking “what’s in it for me?” isn’t selfish…it’s self love.

Happy Sunday!
