The power of yet

Good morning beautiful people! Today’s inspiration is brought to you by the noticeably cooler temps this morning, last night’s freeze warning which means my collard greens can finally thrive, and some pumpkin spice sunshine because, YES…it is still pumpkin spice season.

Imagine the possibilities if you believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Where challenges are seen as opportunities to learn and grow, and setbacks are simply detours on your journey to success.

This is the power of a growth mindset.

A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities are not fixed, but can be developed through hard work, dedication, and learning. People with a growth mindset are more likely to embrace challenges, persevere in the face of setbacks, and seek out feedback.

They see failures as opportunities to learn and grow, and they believe that they can achieve their goals through effort and dedication.

Carol Dweck refers to this mindset as the power of yet.

Here are a few reasons why having a growth mindset is so important:

1. It helps you to learn and grow more effectively. When you believe that your abilities can be developed, you are more likely to put in the effort required to learn and grow. You are also more open to feedback and new ideas.

2. It helps you to persevere in the face of challenges. Everyone faces challenges in life. People with a growth mindset are more likely to persevere in the face of setbacks and challenges. They see these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.

3. It helps you to achieve your goals. When you believe that you can achieve your goals through effort and dedication, you are more likely to set challenging goals for yourself and to put in the work required to achieve them.

Developing a growth mindset isn’t easy but you can get there by:

1. Challenging your negative thoughts. Ask yourself if there is any evidence to support the thought. If not, replace it with a more realistic and more positive thought. Henry Ford said “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

2. Embracing challenges. Step outside of your comfort zone and see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Remind yourself: “I can’t do this YET.”

3. Seeking out feedback. Feedback, both positive and constructive, is essential for growth. Use it to identify your strengths and areas for improvement.

4. Celebrating your successes. It’s important to celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem. This will help you to stay motivated and to continue growing.

Remember, a growth mindset is not about being perfect. It’s about believing in yourself and your ability to learn and grow.

If you find yourself in unfamiliar spaces and are feeling overwhelmed about how to develop, upskill, and advance, remind yourself that where you are today is temporary.

It’s not that you can’t do it. You can’t do it…YET!

Happy Wednesday!
